The Spirit Committee members had many roles which included helping out with the dances in coat check, running stations during grade nine orientation day, set up and participated in both spirit weeks, helped out with the twelve days of Christmas and also came up with new exciting activities for the student body. These members not only were a great support but made my experience as head girl exciting and a lot of fun!

Eva McGuire's project : Girls Club |

When I first heard of Seize Your Future, I was a little hesitant about signing up, but the program was highly recommended, and everyone who knew the program and knew me encouraged me to apply. With the help of Sonia and my mentor Crystal, I realized that a girls' club would be a good way to spend time with my sister Sophie, which was my original plan, and it would be affecting at least six girls and their families. To affect even more people, I planned on performing a play with the girls' club a [...] Keep reading

To affect even more people, I planned on performing a play with the girls' club at a seniors' home. We held a few meetings where we learned about friendship and did activities like cake decorating, and at the very last meeting we went to my grandmother's retirement home and performed the play at the stage there. Afterward, we went to the reception area where I was able to talk to the parents and the girls and get some feedback.

My project for SYF was organizing an informative night called "Girls Nite Out" (GNO). Girls Nite Out was an informative night which promoted awareness on Mental Health issues such as bullying and healthy relationships among young teenage girls. This event was to be held at my high school "Holy Name of Mary Secondary School" in Mississauga, ON for grade 9 students attending this high school. The planning of GNO enabled me to put into practice two specific leadership strategies that I learned in the SYF seminars: communication and delegation. I needed to communicate my vision of this night to others and had to delegate tasks that needed to be done. Thanks to SYF seminars, I was able to understand through careful examination what I did wrong and how I would plan to fix it. Through this experience, SYF gave me tools not only to help me in that project but to allow me to apply it to all other areas of my life.

Jing Yu's project : Are You Ready? A preparation program to enter Cegep |

I decided to do a Cegep Day for my project of Seize Your Future. As most of you probably know, Cegep is a special institution in the Province of Quebec for graduate high school. My project, "Are You Ready" is especially designed in order to help students to adapt to this new environment. The project consisted in three sessions: to help students choose a program that fits them the best, to give them information on different Cegeps, and to teach them study skills and time management. The project consisted in three sessions: to help students choose a program that fits them the best, to give them information on different Cegeps, and to teach them study skills and time management.
The techniques and skills I have learned and developed at Seize Your Future have been of a great help, especially communication and outgoing. Seize Your Future encouraged me to take initiative to contact new people such as school councillors and advisors and it helped me to see the beneficial side of being outgoing. I began to take time to talk to some Cegep students and to hear what they had to say about their difficult adaptation. I took notes and I shared their experiences with high school students to help the latter preparing mentally for a more demanding and challenging environment.
Seize Your Future is definitely a program that has changed my life for it opened my mind and allowed me to see more opportunities in my daily life. It enabled me to have vision and foresights.
